More themey goodness...

Yes! That's right! It's another stylesheet! This one's not going to rotate for a while, and is in a sort of beta whilst I fix various markup issues. Hope everyone likes it.

Now to the subject of hate mail.

I bought my apple keyboard as everyone knows. The problem is, it didn't work. What followed was a slightly hilarios saga involving me travalling to places unnecessarily and being in the interesting position of having two keyboards at once.

I phoned them up and I shouted at them saying it was faulty and didn't work. Basically, some (most) keys would double type when I pressed them. Ssoo I endedd up withh loots of worrds loooooking likee tthis. Which is a pain when you're coding. Anyway, I got an RMA number, and was completely unsurprised to find I had to post it back to Holland. After negotiating with them for many hours, they finally agreed to pay my shipping cost to send the thing back. This was last Friday. Foolishly, I remembered that there's an Apple shop in Regent Street and knowing that Apple are the sort of company that like to treat their customers well, I thought I'd pay them a visit to see if I could swap it there. After spending the best part of an hour battling my way to the west end from Canary Wharf, I was bluntly told that, despite me standing in an Apple shop holding a broken Apple keyboard, they would not take it back because I bought it from the web shop. The thought of buying a keyboard from the shop and then returning the other one straight afterwards didn't occur to me at that moment, but I wish now I had done it. Disheartened, I went home.

On Monday, a strange thing happened. A brand new keyboard turned up for me. Perplexed, and now the apparent owner of 2 Apple keyboards I plugged the new one in. It 'appeared' to not suffer the same problems as the first one. So I took the first one to the post office and returned it to them after it was mentioned to me that they might handle RMA's in the same way hard disk people do. If it breaks, they ship a new one out straight away, and if they don't get the old one back, just bill you for the new one. Anyway, turns out the new one is also broken. Not as much broken as the first one, but it's still broken. It is useable though, so we'll see how frustrated I get with it. If it gets worse, I'll jump on it or something and buy one from logitech.

Bike stuff

For those interested:

I got a new shock for my bike! It's a rather nice Fox Vanilla R, and feels rather good to ride on. Therefore, I've got a spare Float R kicking around. If anyone wants it.......

Something about luck, or chance

There must be this thing that dictates that as soon as I have to be in work early (like, for an 8am meeting), I find that on getting there, there's an email telling me it has been cancelled. This just happened.

I'm actually feeling really sleepy still, so I might read the paper for a bit and then do some stuff that needs doing.

I put a suit on especially as well........

New stuff! Again!

After sitting down and deciding that I should put new stuff onto the site, I remembered that I'd managed to do some cool things with time lapse videos. I first had the idea for doing them a little while back after discovering that Canon make a program through which you can remote control a digital camera, assuming it's plugged in. I soon mastered the technique:

  1. Take a picture
  2. Wait a bit
  3. Repeat

After doing one or two and generally getting the hang of it, I did a few here and there. Some were crap, some were ok - I put the ok ones up in the magic Videos section. At some point I'll put pictures as the links instead of text showing exactly what's going on. Can't be arsed at the moment.

Now I'm going to talk about my day.

First thing I found out this morning is that my project has raised a purchase order of around 246,000.00 CHF (that's 108,761.48 GBP according to xe.com) of which about half was for the wrong stuff. Whether that money has been spent yet, I don't know. Anyway, I've now got to figure out exactly how many licences for Microsoft SQL server I need bearing in mind they come in two different flavours (one about £5k and the other being about £15k). This might not even be my job. Bleh. At lunch, I decided to organise an abseil down the side of some Canary Wharf building because I have to raise £500 or so before I go to Sri Lanka on the 22nd March. Might be April. Can't remember. That should be fun in any case. My afternoon was interesting, because it centred around pushing my project in a whole new direction based on the fact that it was actually possibly going to cost a hell of a lot in terms of bandwidth. Little did I know that an IM system of around 70,000 users needs rather a lot of bandwidth. So next week is going to be fun.

And I'm getting seriously pissed off with this keyboard. I will actually break it. Maybe. I'll buy a new one first. Yes.
