I do this subject called Chemistry. Every week, I do a practical, which normally takes me 10-12 hours of work, and the idea is that this is then marked. So I slave for 12 hours on this particular synthesis, and get what I think is a decent write-up. However, the rather stuck-up idiot of a marker decides that it's a crap write-up for 2 reasons.1) I put a single incorrect arrow on my synthesis mechanism. This isn't exactly a hanging offence. Even at this he threatens not to mark it at all.2) I used the "wrong spectrum" to do my spectral analysis. Let me tell you all a bit about NMR. It's quite easy - you take your sample, dissolve it in a solvent, put it in a tube, put a tube in a machine, press a button, and it plots a graph. It takes about 15 mins, but isn't exactly taxing on the mind. Anyway, when the marker said I used the "wrong spectrum", he meant that I actually did analysis on my own spectrum (shock horror) and not the spectrum that the lab technician took of the "pure" compound. Even though it's EXACTLY THE SAME FECKING SPECTRUM, he refused to mark it. According to him, us spending this 20 minutes doing our own spectra is just 'practice'. We all apparently need practice in pressing a button and waiting 5 minutes.I appreciate very few people will know what I'm dribbling on about, but if you take anything from this, take the fact that I'm rather annoyed.
I've decided that work is bad. It has taken me a surprisingly long time to come to this conclusion, but I went through a long trial period with it, and have now officially decided that I can't be arsed.Still, more to go round for the rest of the general population. This is turning into a surreal evening. I've been drawing/writing things on walls. Not my walls, obviously, but someone elses. There is also a very good reason why, but it eludes me for the moment. The dragon looks fairly funky. :-)
It's sunday. And I'm bored. Currently, I'm quite ill, and I've just conducted the Mozart Requiem, which went leaps and bounds to improve my state of health. Really.Add to that the fact I can't sleep because there are some people cleaning college outside and they're being quite noisy about it. They were being quite noisy about it at 7:00 this morning, and they're going to carry on being noisy until about 4 this afternoon. The amount of work I will therefore get done today is minute - nearly zero in fact.I've got this love affair with the full stop.See.
The joys of lying in bed doing nothing, and on occasion visiting the doctor only to be told to return to bed, are some of the things I think that it's worth writing about some day, waaaaay off in the future when I am no longer ill, and have therefore got past the point of constructing excessivly long sentances in which the rules of English grammar seem to be ill-applied, and whose only purpose seems to be to make up for the fact that there was an excess of full-stops in the previous news entry; therefore the necessity of including a news entry in which there are as few full stops as possible is, or at least becomes, apparent for all to see./falls over.
At a complete surprise to myself and the penguins in the Antarctic, I was delivered a Chelsea Bun purchased from Fitzbillies down the road. Now, apparently these are world-famous, although I must admit I didn't know what a Chelsea Bun was before I encountered this particularly good bit of cake. How it is possible to fit so much sugar into 8 cubic inches worth of bun and still make it absolutely lovely is something that defies belief. I just hope they're not hideously expensive so that I can go and buy lots more :)I'm going to be on a sugar high for the rest of the decade now.....
I just got told that I'm placed 36th in the room ballot. For those of you who don't know (all of you) the ballot is this wonderfully random system that determines what rooms people get in college.Basically, every first year gets given a random room in one of two buildings. Then, every current first gets given a random number and therefore the entire year is put into a randomly generated list. This determines the order in which people pick rooms to live in next year. For the second years going into the third year, the list is the same, but reversed. People doing 4 years are inserted randomly into the list between 30 and 90. Anyway, the upshot is that the complete ballot has about 240 people on it (2 years worth). And I'm 36th :)/breaths in.
Yes it looks different. I've changed a few fonts around here or there and maybe a few colours as well. But most importantly, I've removed the theme changy thingie, as I feel it looks a lot tidier and it's a lot easier to maintain.I might even do a complete redesign...
I spent most of today in a theatre. What I wasn't spending in a theatre I was in a taxi to and from the stage hire place in the rain, or I was spending about £100 hiring and buying stuff. I really hope I get that back, otherwise I might be a bit annoyed.Still, we had a tech today, which only lasted 8 hours which has got to be an all time record. Music run-through tomorrow, dress Monday, open Tuesday. Ouch.
Well, having a bored half hour, I decided to set up the christmas theme for the site for this year, which should become active midnight 1st December. Should. Also, I'm halfway through the play run that I'm doing at the moment. This can only mean that we're having a halfway through run party tonight. It's worth pointing out that we only run for 5 nights, we had a first night party, we will have a last night party, and we're having one tonight. Hmmmmmmmmmmm..... By party I actually mean we'll go out and find lots of alcohol and chocolate and procede to drink/eat the lot. :)
Wow. Only and hour until the month where I earn money, take a holiday, and buy myself things. Christmas decorations up in a bit too. I'm hoping the automatic December-detection system (yes, it's an if statement) will work as I wrote it at least 8 months ago. :)
