Somehow, I've managed to end up becoming lighting designer for this term's week 3 show, the week 7 show, and next terms main ADC show (if it happens). This is after I arrived in Cambridge saying that on no account would I do any theatre work whatsoever as it would take up too much time.Ho hum.
Lectures start in 2 days, and unlike last year where I had a simple timetable which stayed the same from week to week, this one changes every week. Therefore it will simply be a case of turning up at 9am every day simply not knowing what course the lecture will be on. At least it will add an air of excitment to life - a thing lacking ever since.... well, ever since I can remember.Apparently I have a practical every day. I'm sure that's not right, but I really can't be bothered to wade through all the crap I've been given telling me when my practicals for the first 5 weeks are.Cambridge life(tm). There's nothing quite like it.P.S. The BBC want to talk to me about my involvement in the Cambridge University SETI project. W00tage.
I have peritendonitis in my arm. This means I have to give up the piano for about 6 weeks. I think I actually will go insane as there's feck all else to do round here apart from work, and sometimes it's nice not to work. Looks like I'm just going to have to watch Weebl and Bob lots instead.Crap.
I'd forgotten how nice the chemistry library actually is. I've got a whole hour to burn since my 10am lecture isn't happening due to my lecture format, which might as well be random for all the sense it makes. I think that after this I will go and set myself alight whilst attempting to synthesize (make) Bis(cyclopentadienyl)iron. Or something.I also need to get some practice in on this whole sleep thing, it's not going so well at the moment. The fact that large chunks of Pembroke College Chapel Choir (go them!) keep inviting themselves back to my room to drink themselves silly whilst preventing me from sleeping is, I think, a key contributor towards my lack of sleep problem. Ah well. I could always try pulling off the trick of getting everyone to do everything for me. It's nearly working so far....
Well, hurrah for chips. The end of the week is usually both a bad and a good thing. Good because of no lectures and brunch, bad because of the hideous amounts of work + other random stuff I have to do. At least it's purple.Turns out that the magical mystical place called Tonbridge School are planning on sending me a cheque, as they do at this point every year so far. It's always nice to find that you've got an extra £100 which you never budgeted for. However, it turns out that my bill was £100 more than expected, because the rent rebates havn't kicked in yet. So overall, as usual, no gain at all.I do hope them that be at Warwick will be pleased with this database....
This is fairly funky. I'm sat in the Chemistry library again (I'm making E,E-1,4-Diphenyl-1,3-butadiene this week), but instead of making a diary entry from the computer here, I'm doing it from the computer in my room. Magic!!!!!!I'm only here because I have to wait an hour for something to bubble lots, and whilst that's happening, I might as well finish writing up my last practical, but the file's on my computer in my room, and I couldn't be arsed to go back and get it, hence the Magic!!!!!!! bit.I also really need to go and get my university card back off Scudamore's - they've had it for about 3-4 months now after I left it with them when I went punting in the Summer. Without it, I can't get into this library, so have to stand outside the door looking a bit silly until someone else goes in or comes out. Ah well.I think I had better go before my reaction explodes.
I managed to go and see The Reduced Shakespeare Company who were on at the Corn Exchange doing "All the great books". To say it was slightly funny is like saying that the pacific is slightly deep. I've never seen them do anything before, but I thoroughly recommend them to anyone who has the opportunity :)To add to that, I was in a theatre all day yesterday (doing a tech) and will be for bits of this week. Hurrah! That, and I've got far too much work to do.
Hurrah! After much umming and erring, college finally got round to delivering me a new sofa. Well, I say "new", by which I mean I've not seen it before and it's never been in this room before. What I actually mean is that it's probably about 349 years old, and has lots of interesting wildlife hiding in it. It's rather comfy, but quite unattractive. Not that I rate the attractiveness of every sofa I see.Right, I really need to stop waffling and go and find some food. After that, I need to go and shop. And then I need to work. And somewhere along the line I need to put various things in the post to various people, and pay various cheques in. And I'm doing a practical all at the same time. And a person called Tristan tells me he's coming to Cambridge over the weekend. I've never met him, and I'm never sure if he's telling the truth or not. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.
I really must keep reminding myself of why I hate Cambridge (the town) and Cambridge (the public) so much. Actually, that's a bit harsh, it's only the public that really really annoys me. It's almost as if to compensate for the large influx of relativly bright students, the public get a lot thicker. They will clearly do everything they can to block, impede, trip, annoy me as I walk down the street. I gave up trying to go round them after about 5 mins and spent the past hour gleefully walking through people. :-)And I've just realised I forgot to go to the bank. Grrrrrrr.......
