I went to the proms. Again. However, I turned up at a relatively late 2:30pm and subsequently the queue was already all the way down the road (quite a popular concert). Managed to get about 25th in the gallery queue so it wasn't all bad. At least it didn't rain.Saw the Rite along with a few other things and for those millions of you who I know were listening eagerly to the concert on Radio 3 will have heard the idiot's mobile phone echoing around the hall in the middle of the first bar. Sensibly, they started again.I also made an important discovery today - I need more money. But at least this time in two days I'll be in Spain :-)
It's just gone half twelve here and it's about 37 degrees outside. I can see the beach and the sea from where I'm sitting and the list of things that I have to do today is happily empty. I think therefore I might just go lie on the beach and do nothing.
I'm staying in a place called Calafell which is about an hour down the coast from Barcelona and has very few tourists, which is a good thing. So far, we (the Pembroke tour choir) have sung in Barcelona Cathedral (which was nice), a random church in Barcelona (again, nice), Tibidabo Cathedral (smaller than expected, but nice) and the church down the road (slightly weird). Only one more concert to do tomorrow, and then I'm back in sunny England on Wednesday which means that I can stop stressing about mildly incompetant spanish people who refuse to speak english at me. Ah well.
Now I really do know how pathetic English weather is. Right now, in Catalonia, it's probably 35 degrees. It's nearly raining here, and quite cold. It's almost enough to make me want to live there.
It seems that I might actually be earning money next week, which is something that I've not done in over a year and therefore will be rather a novelty for me. Just as well, because the bank are starting to run away when they see me coming. I managed to spend a total of £98 over 10 days in Spain, and that's me on a tight budget. I know of people who managed to get through £250+, damn them. Anyway, pictures will appear soon - the moment I get my computer on the internet in fact. :)
Apparently I've got to go to rye tomorrow and do a concert which mysteriously I have no recollection of organising, and have no idea what I'm going to be playing. Just like most concerts I do. Ah well.
It seems that my plan to just turn up to the office in London and hope that they might find a use for me worked. They all seem fairly pleased. I may even make a profit on this week.In Cambridge next Sunday, thankfully, although I'll be in Leamington for bits of that. Then the joy of the thing that is the organ scholarship trials. Woo./falls over.
This is fantastic, and so true. The number of times I have returned from the pub and the next morning seeing what artwork I created on receipts are too many to count. They all certainly look nothing like my signature.Roll on the pin-number scheme.
For those of you that care, and I'm sure that numbers at least 0, I've managed to get the wonder of the internet through GPRS on my phone. I have a feeling it's going to be hugely expensive but it's paid for on data download basis and not a time connected, which is good.
I'm now in Warwick. Apparently I have to build a database/web/thingie server which I've called squeeble. I would be a lot happier, but I left my phone on the train and therefore my phone is currently in Newcastle. This would have been ok had I been able to get through to the station to tell them that my phone was arriving on the 20:23 from somewhere, but due to the absolutely wonderful system that runs our railways, it was impossible to get through to anyone. Besides, I've only 2 months left on the contract anyway and so it'll cost me £30 max. And it's an excuse to get a different better phone on a better tarrif with a company that doesn't strive to make as much money out of everyone as possible.
So if anyone's reading this and can't get through to me, I don't actually have a phone. At all. You'll want to phone college.
Back in Cambridge now, and I've just been told that the people in white coats are about to remove my 3-piece suite from my room. Bastards. If they take my desk or table from me, I'm not going to be happy. I like that sofa.
Anyway, the organ scholarship trials start today. Which means about 35 temperamental adolescent organists are descending on Cambridge. Great.
I've magically transformed from "person who sleeps all the time" to "person who can never sleep", the end result of which is me, at a quarter past two feeling slightly bored and tired. I amused myself by listening to Reich (Six Pianos; Drumming Music; Variations for Winds, Strings and Keyboards; etc.) Go me.
Today was another one of those days which took an unexpected turn at every opportunity. I went punting with Ruth and Tiffany at which point they proceeded to drag me around various shops in Cambridge for the afternoon, although that did give me the opportunity to buy this which I've just finished listening to and is fab.New phone arrives tomorrow - I'm not sure I can take the excitement.
